Blues Over Easy Jam at Kelly's

Photos from the August 11th Blues of Over Easy Jam Night at Kelly's Irish Pub in Fort Lauderdale. If you're not really familiar with the blues this is a great way to experience it. Performance ranged from blues heavy rock to straight up blues standards.

As with a lot of established jam nights, Blues Over Easy is backed by a regular group of accomplished musicians. They give jam night consistency, setting the bar and maintaining it. Many are professionals or past professionals who have played together. They know each other's strengths and faults and push each other in this experiment friendly environment.

The other side of jam night is the new player. The newcomer often adds novelty and with the right chops, adds to the arc of the jam night. This session saw the energetic addition of guitarist Jonny Childes who showed that the blues can have as much kick and punch as a kung fu flick.

Blues Over Easy at Kelly's is a lush oasis in the midweek desert of music. For anyone yearning to get out midweek and hear music in a public setting and see other people this is not a mirage, this is the real deal.
